Claire McArdle
Name: Claire McArdle Company: Channel 4 Job Title: Digital Commissioning manager for 4iP How long have you worked for 4iP? I joined as a digital commissioner in January 2009, but I'd been working on setting up the fund since it's inception in 2007 when I was Development Manager for Nations & Regions at Channel 4. What do you enjoy most about your job? It's great to be part of a team that have such a broad range of skills and opinions and I think that breadth of interest is really reflected in our investments and commissions. I also love the sheer thrill of looking at a submission, or having a conversation with a supplier and experiencing that realisation that you potential have something very special on your hands. High point of your career? So far? Seeing the deals come together around 4iP and being able to be involved from such an early stage with Stuart Cosgrove (Director of Nations & Regions) pulling it all together. There were some real "kick, bollock, scramble" moments (as Stuart would say) but all worth it. Although I do like to think my career high point still awaits - I'm only young! Old TV series you would resurrect? Buffy the Vampire Slayer, every time. Without quesiton or hesitation.. Who was the last celebrity you worked with? Ah, we're all about the people at 4iP. No slebs for us. If you could have any super power, which would it be? Teleportation. I spend far too much time on trains. And it would be nice to visit my friends in California more often without the hideous flight experience. What's the most embarrassing moment you've had at work? When it sounded as if Dan Heaf (fellow 4iP Digital Commissioner) was suggesting that I was available to the highest bidder. At an event. To a potential investment partner. It takes a lot to make me blush, but that did it. Favourite holiday destination? California. I love Big Sur, Venice Beach and Route One. If you could be anyone for a day who would it be? I know it sounds bizarre, but I would be a historian for the day. In the calm surrounds of the Lower Reading Room of the Radcliffe Camera in Oxford, surrounded by a collection of letters that haven't been read for hundreds of years. Or Lady GaGa. Or both at the same time. Did you Betamax? Nope. Desert Island, who's your Man Friday? I would break many a heart by answering that question.... Top tip for newcomers in the industry… Always, always think about the user need. |
