Fujinon HD lenses capture the 3D action in Golden Globe winning feature film AVATAR
Fujinon high definition lenses, as offered by exclusive UK/Ireland distributor Pyser-SGI Limited, played a major role in the production of the newly released Golden Globe winning 3D epic feature film AVATAR.
Fujinon lenses were specially chosen by director James Cameron – himself a recipient of the Golden Globe Best Director award for the film in Los Angeles, January – in conjunction with Vince Pace, co-inventor of the Fusion 3D camera system used on the film and founder of Pace Technologies.
The lenses used on the ground-breaking AVATAR production included the Fujinon ENG style HA16x6.3BE lens, and a special model HA5x7B-W50 developed by Fujinon to meet the exacting stereographic standards of this revolutionary Pace/Cameron production.
Said Paul Goodwin, Pyser-SGI’s Divisional Head, Broadcast and CCTV Products: “Fujinon worked in closest co-operation with the film-making team to ensure that all the demanding 3D specification parameters were met. The Sony cameras used in the production were paired with the Fujinon lenses to give us the breathtaking action and drama never before matched on the screen”.
“The success of this 3D release underlines Fujinon’s commitment to quality and technological achievement, which we fully intend to utilise with 3D work being undertaken here in the UK. Fujinon lenses have been a key component in the ongoing Pace/Cameron development process for innovative and sophisticated 3D production creativity and efficiency”
The Fujinon HA16x lens - along with the special model HA5x - has made a major contribution to the success of AVATAR.
Offering a combination of wide angle and telephoto zoom, the Fujinon high definition HA16x6.3BE lens has a focal length range of 6.3 to 101 mm. Maximum relative aperture is F1.8 and MOD is 0.4 m. The special design HA5x7B-W50 offers a focal range from 7 to 35 mm.
