Having the right tool to hand

If you look hard enough in the upper reaches of the Sky EPG you may come across a wonderful programme called The New Yankee Workshop. In each half hour the presenter creates a beautiful piece of wooden furniture from scratch. He achieves these wonderful results because his workshop has every single modern tool known to man, and you get the feeling that if you had all those tools you could be just as good a craftsman.
Having the right tool for the job is important. So at IBC we introduced two new variants of our VidScope software quality control suite, each aimed at very specific applications.
VidScope-BX works with any file or content via a capture card, giving editors, designers and colorists working on PC-based systems all the precision technical monitoring they need, whether working in SD, HD or 3Gb/s; SDI, dual-link, HDMI or even analogue. It works in real time even if you are using HDV sources over Firewire.
And with stereoscopic 3D one of the biggest topics at IBC this year, we had a first preview showing of VidScope-3D. This compares both “eyes” of a 3D production to ensure accurate matching between the channels, eliminating a potential source of viewer discomfort. Like the rest of the VidScope range, it includes photo-sensitive epilepsy tests to the Ofcom standard.
Visitors seemed to appreciate these additions to the range, and they so impressed the judges that they won a Star Award from TV Technology. Good encouragement for us to continue to develop tools to meet specific needs. At the upcoming BVE you will be able to experience these excellent instruments first hand. We look forward to seeing you at our stand.
